Ontario is funding more surgical procedures for the young people of Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation Hamilton by Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network to reduce wait times and improve access to paediatric care, Ted McMeekin, MPP, Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale and SophiaAggelonitisMPPHamiltonMountain announced today.
A number of paediatric surgical procedures were assigned priority status to reduce significant wait times. As a result, through Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) , Hamilton Health Sciences will receive dedicated funding this year for key paediatric services:
§ $964,300 for 334 additional surgeries
While the Pediatric Wait Time Strategy focuses on these priorities immediately, the overall agenda is to improve the access to timely, high-quality paediatric health care services for all children in Ontario.
Since April/May 2006 paediatric wait times for all paediatric surgical services have decreased approximately 17 per cent from 273 days to 226 days.
